It is the story of the pan-Humber traffic, mostly excursionists from Grimsby and Cleethorpes, to Spurn from 1800 onwards. It is all about the ketches and paddle steamers that plied this trade. Paddle steamers arrived on the Humber as early as 1814, so there is mention of a trip to Spurn as early as 1832!
It is a profusely illustrated with black and white photographs, including many previously unpublished images. Additionally, there is a chapter on the sail bogies of the Spurn Railway, and an appendix about recreating a working copy of the ‘Spurn Landship’ in 2019.
