This book provides a comprehensive account of the Brontë Collection from when it was first put on display in the Brown brothers Temperance Hotel and Refreshment Rooms in Main Street, Haworth.
On the 18th of May 1895, the Brontë Museum opened on the upper floor of the Yorkshire Penny Bank at the top of Haworth's Main Street.
Then, in 1927, Sir James Roberts, a local man, bought the parsonage for the Brontë Society to provide them with a permanent home for their museum and library. Since then, the Brontë Collection has continued to grow, and today the museum is considered to contain the world's largest Brontë Collection.
From the beginning, the Brontë Collection involved complex issues, and there were conflicts with individuals, some of which were inscrutable. These are also described in this book.
